Simonazo: 18 months

18 things about Simonazo at 18 months

1) He is speaking more and learning new words every day.
Favourites include:
"more" (used mostly in the kitchen to indicate any type of food)
"outside" (used probably 1,000,000 times a day, even when we are outside)
"koo-kah" (cookie or cracker, depending on which cupboard he points to)
"baba" (bottle or your brother)

2) He doesn't walk, he runs. Everywhere. All the time.

3) He is mostly in a good mood. Except when he screams and cries for no reason. Like he doesn't like the shoes he is wearing. Or mom tries to put his Hallowe'en costume on.

4) He loves the water. He can easily spend 30 minutes in the tub, and is doing great at swimming lessons.

5) He is a clown. He is always looking for something funny to do and then doing it over and over again to get a reaction from us. He also makes funny faces.

6) He is definitely a boy. He loves to be gross (especially at the dinner table) and laughs when he toots.

7) He is very independent. He can go up and down stairs (holding onto the railing on the way down), down the slide and tries to put his clothes on himself.

8) He is a bit of a daredevil. He is always the highest on the swings, he loves having his dad take the stroller off roading and bouncing around. The higher and faster it goes, the happier he is.

9) He loves going for walks in the park. And the boy can walk. Uphill, downhill, anywhere.

10) He's a great eater. He loves fruits, especially peaches and raspberries. He also has a taste for hummus, beans and Perrier.

11) He loves the dirt. He is happiest sitting in the dirt, with a shovel, and making a mess. He can never wear the same pants 2 days in a row because they are always dirty by the end of the day.

12) He is so friendly. He loves to wave at other kids and will run up to neighbours and give them a hug.

13) He loves animals, especially watching the dogs at the park.

14) He can run and kick a ball, and has a really good throwing arm.

15) He loves his brother. He will hug and kiss him, or lie on the floor next to him and try to make him laugh.

16) He has a taste for shoes, bags and jewelry. He also loved getting his hair "done" pre-haircut.

17) He knows that a "bike" can be a motorcycle or a bicycle. And he will say "bike" if he hears a bike but can't see it.

18) He notices everything. He will spot a bike leaning up against a garage from the street, or copy the way his dad is scratching his head.

Simonazo's favourite activity: walking in the park.

Pony Ride!

This morning Simonazo went on his first pony ride ever.

Initially he wasn't too thrilled, but once the horse started moving he enjoyed it more. Luckily his dad was there for support.

Go Simonazo!

2 months

Dear Bubba,

You are 2 months old now, and weigh in at 9 lbs even.
You are a strong willed little guy. When you are not happy, you can scream for a LONG time. Car trips are the worst, since you hate the car seat and require the car to be moving at all times. Unfortunately, living in the city, this is not always feasible and you never cease to express your anger at red lights. Your brother has taken to plugging his ears when we are in traffic, to help mute the sound.

You are a funny little man. You love to be warm, which will be interesting come winter. You love to be swaddled in your blue blanket, but are equally happy next to me under the duvet. You hate the stroller, which works out, since your brother still uses it. For now you are still being carried in the wrap, which you love, but you are getting heavier, and I warn you, this won't last forever.

You are not the greatest sleeper, and are still waking up every 3-4 hours at night, and I am getting kind of tired. You're lucky, I'm much more patient with you than I was with your brother. BUT...... I have my limits, so beware that once you are a bit older, I am willing to let you cry it out. I anticipate you will put up a good fight but so will I. I am tired, and determined.

You are changing quickly. Your eyes are still big and blue, with a little sparkle. Your belly is getting chubby, your legs and arms will soon follow. You still moan and groan a lot, but I am used to it. You have discovered your tongue, which you stick out at me a lot, and your arms, which wave around uncontrollably.

The first 2 months have been a period of adjustment for all of us. We have learned to reorganize ourselves and our time. I have learned to adjust my sleep schedule (note: please try to sleep better) to yours. But I think we have turned the corner. From here, things get more fun. You have a lot of changes coming up in the next few months and I can't wait to be a part of them.
